The new Adrian Grenier/Zoe Kazan/Betty Gabriel show Clickbait premiered on Netflix today, introducing viewers to a bleak crime with a profoundly messed up series of twists. The show imagines a harrowing scenario where a seemingly ordinary man, Nick Brewer (Adrian Grenier), is kidnapped and filmed holding cue cards detailing unfathomable sins. Whomever is shooting the video promises that Nick will die — as in be literally murdered — when the video hits 5 million views. Naturally, Clickbait asserts, it goes viral.
This nightmare situation pushes Nick’s wife Sophie (Betty Gabriel) and sister Pia (Zoe Kazan) into their own terrifying journey. Pia is doing her best to both save and exonerate her beloved brother, while Sophie must deal with some of her own dark secrets coming to the fore. Did Nick really have a secret online life? And who is doing this to him?
Clickbait ups the ante on the drama by introducing new characters with their own tangled connections to the case as well as some truly shocking twists. But will the limited series return for a second season? Will there be a Season 2 of Clickbait on Netflix?
Here’s everything we know so far about Clickbait Season 2 on Netflix…
Will There Be a Clickbait Season 2 on Netflix?
We don’t know yet! The show was envisioned as a one season-long miniseries and does a pretty good, though unhinged, job of wrapping up the mystery of who kidnapped Nick Brewer and why. So far Netflix has not shown any obvious inclination to want to renew the series, but it could return, perhaps as an anthology.
When Would Clickbait Season 2 Premiere on Netflix?
Clickbait Season 1 went into production in December 2019 and had to halt shooting during the COVID-19 crisis. The show went back into production in Australia in November 2020. That means that if Netflix ordered another season and production started this winter, a new installment could hit Netflix around Summer or Fall 2022. That is if Netflix wants more Clickbait.
