Whoopi Goldberg is out here spilling the tea about Sister Act 3 right and left. On Tuesday, the Sister Act star revealed on The Late Late Show with James Corden that she and her former co-stars are “working diligently” to figure out how to continue the story of Deloris Van Cartier and her nun pals. As if that weren’t enough, Goldberg then told her View co-hosts this morning that “it feels like there may be” a Sister Act 3 after all this time. Amen!
Goldberg’s repeated teases about a new Sister Act 3 movie have left fans reeling, and (of course) desperate to know more. Who will be in Sister Act 3? Is there a Sister Act 3 release date? Keep reading to find out!
WILL THERE BE A SISTER ACT 3?
If Whoopi Goldberg is to be believed, there will, in fact, be a Sister Act 3 movie. The actress, comedian, and TV personality has discussed the sequel in a series of different appearances this week, including a Tuesday interview on The Late Late Show and Thursday morning on The View. In both instances, Goldberg confirmed that she’s actively working to make Sister Act 3 happen, and she’s hopeful that now is finally the right time to bring back the beloved film.
WHAT HAS WHOOPI GOLDBERG SAID ABOUT SISTER ACT 3?
During a virtual interview with James Corden, Goldberg explained that “for a long time,” the Sister Act cast had discussed doing another sequel, but studio executives “kept saying that no one wanted to see it.” However, she continued, “Quite recently, it turns out, that that may not be true. People might want to see it.”
“So, we’re working diligently to try to figure out how to get the gang together and come back,” said Goldberg. “It’s a really fun movie. It’s fun and it feels good. Nobody’s mad. It’s just like, listen — bad singing, great singing, okay singing, and then nuns. What’s better than that?”
Goldberg was once again asked about Sister Act 3 this morning on The View, when Sara Haines asked her to dish on the rumors. “Is there going to be a Sister Act 3?” asked Haines. “It feels like there may be, yes,” replied Goldberg. “A couple of years ago, they didn’t want to do it. And now it seems that people are really talking about it like it’s something that people want to see. So, it’s great.”
WILL MAGGIE SMITH AND LAURYN HILL BE IN THE SISTER ACT 3 MOVIE?
As of now, details about a potential Sister Act sequel are few and far between, so we don’t know for certain whether Maggie Smith (Reverend Mother), Kathy Najimy (Sister Mary Patrick), Lauryn Hill (Rita Louise Watson in Sister Act 2) and the rest of the cast will return. Keep your fingers crossed, folks!
SISTER ACT 2: WHERE DID WE LEAVE DELORIS VAN CARTIER?
When viewers last saw Goldberg’s Deloris Van Cartier in Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, she was performing with the St. Francis Academy choir as Sister Mary Clarence. At the end of the film, the choir learns that Mary Clarence is actually a real singer and a Las Vegas legend, but she continues to perform with them. What has she been up to for the past 30 years? Has she taken the St. Francis choir on the road? Only Sister Act 3 can deliver these answers.
