Bills quarterback Mitch Trubisky couldn’t help but laugh when asked about his infamous 2011 tweet – which read “I love kissing t–ties” – during an interview with Barstool Sports.
And, as it turns out, Trubisky wasn’t the one who sent out the tweet.
“One of my buddies [tweeted that],” Trubisky told the hosts of Pardon My Take podcast. “He’s in the [Chicago] White Sox organization right now and we were in a basketball tournament… the Arby’s Classic,” in Tennessee, he said without naming the player.
“You’re in the hotel room with your buddies and you’re just messing around on each other’s phones or what not, and eight years later I find out that somebody tweeted it.
“There’s worse ones out there, so.”
Trubisky, who raised eyebrows when the tweet resurfaced on his draft night in 2017, admitted he “actually gained a lot of fans from that, so it was positive in a way.”
He went on to joke, “Someone was just waiting on that one like, ‘If this guy gets drafted, it’s gonna be a good one.'”
Trubisky was 17 years old when the tweet was sent on Dec. 27, 2011. He wouldn’t get drafted until 2017, when the Bears selected him with the second overall pick. In the offseason, he signed a one-year deal with the Bills.
Trubisky explained the viral tweet after he impressed in Buffalo’s win over his former Bears on Saturday. He led four straight touchdown drives, while completing 20-of-28 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown in the first half.
