MASSIVE AUDIENCE FOR RNC: Opening Night of RNC Saw Six Times the Viewership of DNC

C-SPAN’s live stream of the Republican National Convention’s opening night saw an audience six times greater than that of the opening night of the Democratic National Convention. The first night of the GOP convention had a viewership of approximately 440,000 people, compared to the Democrat’s 76,000.

The DNC had a poor showing far as traditional TV ratings are concerned as well. Ratings for the three major networks – ABC, NBC, and CBS – were down nearly forty-two percent on the Democrat’s opening night. The Neilson ratings for the RNC are not yet available.

Although many big names, such as former first lady Michelle Obama, spoke at the DNC on the first night, the GOP’s lineup that included Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley, and the now-famous McCloskeys garnered far more attention.
