A newly-elected congressman from Louisiana was transferred to the ICU on Wednesday to be treated for the coronavirus, his spokesman said.

Rep.-elect Luke Letlow, 40, was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Friday.

He was admitted to the hospital the next day, and is now in the intensive care unit at Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport, La., spokesman Andrew Bautsch said in a statement.

Letlow is in stable condition and is being treated with the antiviral medication remdesivir and steroids, LSU Health Sciences Center Chancellor G.E. Ghali said in the statement.

The Republican from rural Start, La., won the Pelican State’s 5th District seat in a Dec. 5 runoff race.

His family — including wife Julia Letlow and their two children — is “thankful for all of the prayers and support they continue to receive,” the statement said.
